Finance Minister O.P. Chaudhary presented a concrete vision on GST reforms: Suggested strict action against bogus registration and fake bills

Raipur. An important meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted to make GST revenue collection more transparent, technology-enabled and effective across the country was held in the capital Delhi today. In the meeting, Chhattisgarh Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary shared the state’s experience and presented many important suggestions for strict action against bogus businessmen, use of modern technology in the registration process and prevention of fake input tax credit. This group is being coordinated by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod P. Sawant

Chhattisgarh Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary participated in the meeting as a member and shared the state’s experience and policy suggestions. The main objective of the meeting was to assess the challenges in revenue collection and find comprehensive solutions

During the meeting, the finance ministers of various states of the country analysed in detail the economic and other factors affecting the GST revenue in their respective states. On this occasion, Choudhary gave information about the initiatives taken in the field of anti-evasion and compliance in Chhattisgarh.

O.P. Choudhary informed that data analytics and artificial intelligence based tools are being used extensively in Chhattisgarh to prevent tax evasion and provide convenience to genuine taxpayers. He said that such efforts have made it possible to increase the state’s revenue significantly.

Presentations of state-of-the-art systems like BIFA, GST Prime and e-way bill portal were also made in the meeting. Chaudhary suggested that uniform implementation of these innovations across the country will help in speeding up the identification and action against bogus businessmen.

The Chhattisgarh Finance Minister particularly emphasised on the development of a centralised digital mechanism for control of fake bills, prevention of fake input tax credit, and transparency in the registration process. He said that these measures will not only increase revenue but will also instill confidence in taxpayers.

 Finance Minister Choudhary also underlined in the meeting that regular review and data-based decision-making processes at the state level in the context of GST collection under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai have yielded positive results. He said that Chhattisgarh’s experience can become a useful model for other states.

In the meeting, Finance Minister O P Chaudhary said that all the states should make joint efforts to ensure stability and growth in GST revenue collection. He expressed confidence that the GST Council will soon implement the measures suggested by the group of ministers. He said that this meeting will prove to be important for placing comprehensive reform proposals before the GST Council, which will give a new direction to tax administration and revenue collection in India.
