After Polavaram was declared a national project during the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the onus of resolving the inter-state dispute now rests with the Centre. The solution is also crucial for meeting the deadlines as the project has been moving at a fast pace since the NDA government came to power in Andhra.

The chief secretaries were briefed about the meeting with the PM through video conference. Irrigation ministers and senior officials of the four states, officials of the Union Jal Shakti Ministry, Central Water Commission and Polavaram Project Authority will also participate.

In March, a joint action committee comprising representatives from the proposed submergence areas of these states had demanded an immediate halt to the Polavaram-Polavaram project until all submergence issues were resolved.
