Relief from electricity bill, increasing self-reliance, important contribution in environmental protection
Raipur, 07 August 2025/
‘PM Suryaghar – Free Electricity Scheme’ launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is proving to be a milestone towards energy self-sufficiency in Raigarh district. Under this scheme, solar rooftop systems have been installed in 197 houses in the district so far, due to which the concerned families have got freedom from electricity bills and they are also becoming economically empowered by becoming energy producers.
Through the installed solar plants, each family is getting direct savings of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 per month. Many beneficiaries are also earning additional income by sending excess electricity to the grid. This has not only reduced household expenses but also reduced carbon emissions through clean energy, which is a meaningful initiative towards environmental protection.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, the government is providing attractive subsidies on solar plants of different capacities. A 1 kW plant can produce about 120 units of electricity per month. Rs. 30,000 is provided as Central Government subsidy and Rs. 15,000 as State Government subsidy, totalling Rs. 45,000. The consumer has to bear about Rs. 15,000 himself. A 2 kW plant produces 240 units of electricity per month, on which a total subsidy of Rs. 90,000 (Rs. 60,000 from the Centre and Rs. 30,000 from the State Government) is provided. The consumer’s contribution is Rs. 30,000. A 3 kW plant can produce 360 units of electricity per month, on which a subsidy of Rs. 1,08,000 (Rs. 78,000 from the Central Government and Rs. 30,000 from the State Government) is provided. The consumer has to bear only Rs 72,000, which can also be obtained through a bank loan.
Mr. Maheshwar Patel, a resident of Nandeli village, has installed a 5 kW solar rooftop plant under Kusmura subdivision. He is the first beneficiary in the area to install a solar plant under this scheme. Mr. Patel has now become self-reliant in the field of energy by being free from electricity bills. His success has also inspired other villagers to join this scheme.
