Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai today launched Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Ground Water Conservation Mission (Urban). Under this, work will be done on mission mode for conservation and conservation of ground water and rain water in all the urban bodies of the state. Chief Minister Shri Sai also released the brochure of the mission and launched the video prepared on it in the inaugural program organized by the Urban Administration and Development Department in Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Auditorium of Raipur. He also handed over compassionate appointment letters to the family members of 18 employees who died during their service period in nine urban bodies of the state.
Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Shri Arun Saw, Water Resources and Raipur District In-charge Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, MLAs Shri Rajesh Munat, Sunil Soni, Moti Lal Sahu, Purandar Mishra, Guru Khuswant Saheb, Indra Kumar Sahu, Raipur Municipal Corporation Mayor Smt. Meenal Chaubey and Shri Rajendra Singh, popularly known as Waterman, also attended the inaugural program as special guests. In the workshop organized on the occasion of the launch of Ground Water Augmentation Mission, officials of hydrologists, colonizers, industry group, Forest Department, Public Works Department, Public Health Engineering Department and Water Resources Department brainstormed on water conservation, its measures and results. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Saw and Shri Rajendra Singh, popularly known as Waterman of India, also presented their views in the workshop and also answered the questions of the participants. The team of Surat Municipal Corporation of Gujarat shared the work being done there for rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, while addressing the launch program of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Ground Water Conservation Mission (Urban), said that life cannot be imagined without water. Keeping in mind the adequate availability of water, this ambitious mission is being started by the Urban Administration Department. For this, I thank Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Saw and the Urban Administration Department. He expressed hope that this mission will prove to be a milestone in the conservation and enrichment of rainwater and groundwater.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that many measures are being taken for water conservation in the state. Panchayat and Rural Development Department is running ‘More Village More Water’ campaign with the participation of villagers. He said that the purpose of both the campaigns is the same. On the call of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, new ponds are being constructed in the form of Amrit Sarovar and old ponds are being renovated across the country for water conservation. Today, on the occasion of the launch of the mission, experts have communicated for four hours on its effective implementation. Shri Sai said that if we are not alert and careful about water now, then the coming time will be difficult.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Saw said in the inaugural program that experts have just discussed for four hours on the measures for rainwater collection, conservation and recharging of groundwater. Guidance has also been received from Waterman Shri Rajendra Singh and experts from Surat Municipal Corporation. He said that during this dialogue, the matters of including works of water conservation and promotion in the school curriculum and adopting crop rotation in accordance with the pattern of rainfall in the state have come up prominently. Shri Saw said that in view of the challenges of arranging water for drinking and other needs in the cities in the coming times, this mission is being started by the Urban Administration Department. He said that there is sufficient rainfall in Chhattisgarh. We can overcome the problems of water by its careful collection and promotion.
Expressing happiness at the launch of Ground Water Conservation Mission, Water Resources Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap said in the program that he hopes that exemplary work will be done under this mission. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Chhattisgarh has got the first place in the whole country in water conservation with public participation. Considering the importance of water, there is a need to work seriously to recharge and refill its sources. The Water Resources Department is also working seriously on this. Secretary of Urban Administration and Development Department Dr. Basavaraju S., Director Shri R. Ekka and CEO of State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) Shri Shashank Pandey, including Mayors, Chairpersons and Commissioners of all Municipal Corporations, Presidents and Chief Municipal Officers of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats, Engineers of Urban Bodies, Water Experts, Social Workers, Representatives of Voluntary Organizations, Urban Administration Department and SUDA officials were present in large numbers in the launch program.
