The unique shade of tribal culture is spreading in Bastar Pandum

The unique splendor of the rich tribal art and culture of Bastar is spreading in Bastar Pandum. The three-day Bastar Pandum 2025 is being organized to revive the cultural heritage of Bastar and put it on the national and global stage. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma and Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap inaugurated this event today. Apart from colorful cultural programs, traditions, customs, food, rare musical instruments, various theatrical forms etc. are being showcased in Bastar Pandum.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Bastar Pandum, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma said that on the occasion of Navratri, the government has organized Bastar Pandum to preserve and enhance the glorious culture of Bastar and to bring it to the global platform. This will give the people of the world an opportunity to know and understand the culture and tradition of Bastar. Bastar is rich in amazing cultural traditions, customs and tribal cuisine. Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap said that Bastar Pandum is being discussed in the country and abroad. An initiative is being taken through Bastar Pandum to save the rich culture of local cuisine, costumes and jewellery of Bastar region which are endangered. Describing the Falgun Mandi of Dantewada and the Bastar Dussehra organized in Bastar as a symbol of social harmony, he said that the people of the society are promoting this tradition.

MLA Shri Chautaram Atami and District Panchayat President Shri Nandlal Mudami also addressed the program. Culture Department Director Shri Vivek Acharya gave information about the program outline. On this occasion, Municipal Council President Smt. Payal Gupta, Women Commission member Smt. Ojasvi Mandavi along with other public representatives and other dignitaries were present.

Tribal dance and song performance

Seven genres have been included under Bastar Pandum 2025. In which competition is being organized among the winners of the seven districts of the division. Under tribal dances, tribal songs like Gedi, Gaur-Madia, Kakasaad, Mandri, Hulkipaata, Parab were presented under folk song series including tribal songs – Chautparab, Leja, Jagargeet, Dhankul, Hulkipaata (customs, festivals, marriage system and naming ceremony etc.) Bhatra drama was presented in tribal drama category.

Traditional musical instruments, costumes and jewellery

The display of tribal musical instruments included Dhankul, Dhol, Chitkul, Todi, Akum, Jhaab, Mandar, Mridang, Biriya Dhol, Sarangi, Gudum, Mohri, Sulung, Mundabaja, Chikara. The display of tribal costumes and jewellery included ornaments like Lurki, Kardhan, Sutiya, Pairi, Bahunta, Bichhiya, Ainthi, Bandha, Phuli, Dhamel, Nangmori, Khochani, Mundri, Surra, Suta, Pata, Putri, Nakbesar.

Tribal crafts, paintings and cuisine

Under tribal crafts and painting, Ghadwa, clay art, wood, dhokra, iron stone, tattoo, wall painting, glass, cowrie craft, bamboo comb, geeki (mat), garland of grass grains were displayed. Tribal beverages and dishes are being displayed- sulfi, toddy, chindras, landa, kosara, jondhra and madia pej, chapra chutney, suksi pudga, machhari pudga, machhari jhor, aamat saag, tikhur, bobo etc
