On the evening of Saturday, May 10, a wonderful scene was witnessed in the mini stadium of Government Adarsh Ramanuj Higher Secondary School located in Baikunthpur of Koriya district, where the sparkle of curiosity towards science and astronomy was clearly visible in the eyes of the children. The mega sky watching program organized with the participation of more than 500 students of the district proved to be an important step towards spreading science education to the masses.

The special thing about this event was that the students not only heard scientific facts but also experienced them directly. Observing the Moon, Mars and Jupiter directly with the help of a telescope was no less than an exciting journey for the students. The display of cosmic events through the LED screen was also very attractive and educative.

The program was organized under the joint auspices of District Administration Korea, Junior Red Cross Society and Breakthrough Science Society Korea. Its objective was to develop scientific attitude in students, encourage logical thinking and generate interest in subjects like astronomy.

The chief guest of the program was District Collector Mrs. Chandan Tripathi, along with whom District Superintendent of Police Mr. Ravi Kurre and District Panchayat Vice President Mrs. Vandana Rajwade were also present. These officials praised the children’s enthusiasm and participation and said that such events strengthen scientific consciousness and thinking in the new generation.

Scientific representatives Mr. Patit Pavan Kuila, Mr. Vijay Kumar, Ms. Pooja Sharma and Mr. Kamal Dadsena presented interesting facts related to the universe to the students in simple language. Telescope experts Jeevan Sahu and Neeraj Kumar gave technical lectures as well as practical information about the equipment. The participation of the education world became stronger with the presence of District Education Officer Mr. Jitendra Gupta.

Along with the students of government and non-government schools of the district, the heads of institutions, teachers and parents also participated in the program. People of all age groups enjoyed this unique journey of astronomy in this event which started at 5 pm.

This special initiative not only connected the students to the galaxy and the solar system, but also instilled in them a new energy and curiosity towards science. This program proved to be a milestone in bringing a scientific approach in the thinking of the students.

The motto of the programme, Science for humanity, Science for society, Science in thinking, was not only understood but also lived. The appeal made by the district administration to all educational institutions to ensure maximum participation of students also bore fruit, due to which science did not emerge as a complex subject but as a live subject worth experiencing.
