Raipur, 25 June 2025

Clean and safe drinking water is being provided even in the remote and inaccessible villages of Bastar through Niyad Nella Nar and Jal Jeevan Mission. Tap water is being supplied to all homes through both the schemes. The Public Health Engineering Department has certified Har Ghar Jal in Salatong, a dependent village of Potakpalli Gram Panchayat in the remote forest area of Konta development block of Sukma district, by completing all the works under Jal Jeevan Mission, ensuring availability of drinking water in every household. Before tap water started reaching homes, there was mainly dependence on hand pumps for drinking water.

Under Jal Jeevan Mission, a solar energy based water supply system has been developed at Salatong, 90 km from the district headquarters Sukma, at a cost of about 50 lakh rupees. Salatong is a Naxal-affected village located in a sensitive area. Various schemes are being implemented on priority in the selected villages under the state government’s Niyyad Nella Nar, which also includes Salatong. Under Jal Jeevan Mission, four water tanks have been installed there for water supply. Pure drinking water is being supplied to all the houses of the village through two solar pumps by laying a total pipeline of 3800 meters.
