Guidelines for malaria, sickle cell and TB elimination

Commissioner and Co-Director of Health Services, Dr. Priyanka Shukla held a meeting of the Health Department at the Joint District Office, Dantewada and reviewed various health schemes like Malaria Free Chhattisgarh, Sickle Cell Disease Control and TB Eradication.
Dr. Shukla told the health officials in clear terms that the government’s aim is to completely eradicate malaria. This is possible only when the health staff at the district, block and village levels work with full vigor. He directed the Chief Medical and Health Officer and Block Medical Officers to personally go to the field and monitor the malaria campaign.
Dr. Shukla said that if a person is found malaria positive during testing with RD kit, then he should be given full dose of medicine. Referral of medicines given by Mitanins should be submitted, so that it can be ensured that the patient has completed the medicine. In this campaign, a target has also been set to bring down the API rate to below 2 percent.
All ashram schools should have regular malaria tests
The health system of ashram schools was also reviewed in the meeting. Dr. Shukla said that regular malaria testing should be ensured in all ashram schools. If even a single student is found malaria positive, then all the students should be screened immediately.
He asked to create Aabha Health ID for all patients suffering from sickle cell so that there is no hindrance in their treatment.
Dr. Shukla also reviewed the TB eradication program and said that ‘TB Mitras’ should be created in all panchayats.
Increase health awareness in local dialect and language
He said that if health awareness is spread in local dialect and language, then people will understand better and will come forward for treatment. He said that “Our work is not limited to treatment only, but it is also our responsibility to prevent diseases, create awareness and public confidence.
Dr. Shukla also conducted an in-depth review of other health schemes being run in the district such as Janani Suraksha Yojana, Chief Minister Haat-Bazaar Clinic, National Child Health Program, vaccination campaign and deworming campaign.
He said that it is essential to register pregnant women in the first trimester as they would be screened four times which would identify high-risk mothers and thus, maternal deaths can be reduced.
High risk mothers should deliver their babies in higher institutions only
It is mandatory to get the pregnant mothers registered in Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan checked on 9th and 24th of every month. It is very important to do prenatal follow-up of high risk mothers and delivery should be done in a high-level institution only, so that the safety of both mother and child is our responsibility.
Collector Mr. Kunal Dudawat, District Panchayat CEO Mr. Jayant Nahata, Additional Collector Mr. Rajesh Patre, District Health Officer, Block Medical Officer, all CHC-PHC in-charges, Malaria, TB and Sickle Cell in-charges and other health workers were present in the meeting.
