Azim Premji Foundation will set up a super specialty hospital in Ambikapur and a 100-bed hospital in Dharamjaigarh

The foundation plans to provide scholarships to girls for higher education and run 2500 crèches

MoU signed between Health Department and Azim Premji Foundation

Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai today attended a high-level meeting with officials of Azim Premji Foundation and departmental officials regarding the expansion of education and health facilities in Chhattisgarh at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the government is committed to the upgradation of education and health facilities in the state. The government is continuously making efforts in this direction. The participation of the private sector under Corporate Social Responsibility will strengthen the work of the government. In the meeting, an MoU was signed between the Health Department and Azim Premji Foundation for the expansion of health facilities in the state. 

In the meeting, the officials of Azim Premji Foundation gave detailed information to Chief Minister Shri Sai through a PowerPoint presentation about the work being done by the Foundation in Chhattisgarh in the fields of education, health, crèche (baby home), livelihood development and other areas. Chief Executive Officer of Azim Premji Foundation, Shri Anurag Behar told the Chief Minister that the Foundation has been working in the field of social service in Chhattisgarh for the last 15 years. At present, various activities are being conducted by the Foundation in 9 districts of the state. 

The officials of Azim Premji Foundation apprised the Chief Minister about the future action plan of the Foundation in Chhattisgarh. He informed that Azim Premji Foundation has planned to set up a 200-300 bed super specialty hospital in Ambikapur and a 100 bed fully equipped hospital in Dharamjaygarh. Eighty percent of the patients in these hospitals will be provided completely free treatment, which will directly benefit the economically weak and needy people. 

The Foundation officials told Chief Minister Shri Sai that the Foundation will provide scholarships for higher education to 20 thousand girls studying in 10th and 12th standard in government schools in Chhattisgarh. Under this, an amount of Rs. 30 thousand will be given every year for the tuition fees of the girls along with other expenses. The Chief Minister appreciated the Foundation’s scheme of giving scholarships to encourage girl education. 

In the meeting, the officials of the Foundation told Chief Minister Shri Sai that for the purpose of providing better education to the children of the state, the Foundation is doing important works including training of teachers institutionally. In the same sequence, 400 crèches (Shishu Griha) are being operated in the state for small children from 6 months to 3 years. Food is also being provided to the children thrice a day in all the crèches. The Foundation plans to increase the number of crèches in the state from 2500 to 3000 crèches. Chief Minister Shri Sai praised this initiative of Azim Premji Foundation and said that through crèches, children will get education and nutrition in a safe environment.

The Foundation officials also apprised Chief Minister Shri Sai about the work being done for livelihood development. He informed that the Foundation is working for the economic empowerment of the people by working in 42 villages of Dharamjaigarh in the fields of horticulture, agriculture, animal husbandry and other fields. In future, the Foundation will accelerate this work and work for livelihood development in other districts as well. 

Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Subodh Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of Panchayat and Rural Development Department Mrs. Niharika Barik Singh, Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Rahul Bhagat, Secretary of School Education Department Mr. Siddharth Komal Pardesi, Secretary Health and Family Welfare Department Mr. Amit Kataria, Secretary Higher Education Department Dr. S Bharatidasan, Secretary Women and Child Development Department Mrs. Shammi Abidi, State Head of Azim Premji Foundation Mr. Sunil and other officers were present in the meeting.
